In the 1820's, New England missionaries arrived. Asian immigrants and others came later. Shown here is the Jodo Mission's bronze Buddha, located near Lahaina.

The Iao Valley is a popular area for viewing the steep eroded cliffs of the West Maui Mountains, as well as hiking along the stream, populated by guava and other tropical trees.
